Main Stream: St. Anne
The charism of the SSA is holistic education and service inspired by St. Anne, emphasizing formation of children and youth in faith, knowledge, and virtue. Sisters combine prayer, community life, and active apostolic ministry, working in schools, catechetical programs, and social outreach initiatives. Their spirituality emphasizes humility, patience, and dedication, fostering a nurturing and supportive environment for growth in both faith and human development.
The congregation was founded in 1834 in France by Fr. François Chaminade and Mother Marie Anne du Sacré-Cœur, with a focus on education of young girls and care for the poor. From the beginning, the sisters combined teaching and pastoral ministry, gradually expanding to healthcare and social services. The SSA established international missions, including Africa, where they serve in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, running schools, catechetical programs, and community development initiatives, remaining faithful to their founding charism of education and service.
