Charism

The charism of the Missionary Sisters of the Holy Rosary is centered on missionary zeal and compassionate service. They dedicate themselves to spreading the Gospel and living out Christ’s love through education, healthcare, and social development. Their mission emphasizes care for the marginalized, especially women, children, and youth, combining prayerful devotion with practical outreach in local communities. Through this charism, they witness faith, justice, and human dignity in everyday life.

Short History

The congregation was founded on 7 March 1924 in Killeshandra, County Cavan, Ireland, by Bishop Joseph Shanahan, CSSp. Their first mission was to Nigeria in 1928, where they established schools, health centers, and social services. Over the decades, they expanded to other African countries, as well as Europe and the Americas. The congregation received canonical recognition in 1938 and has continued to grow, dedicating nearly a century to evangelization, education, healthcare, and social outreach in communities that are most in need.
