Charism

The charism of the OLSH Sisters is rooted in the desire to make the Sacred Heart of Jesus loved everywhere. They strive to witness Christ’s love in daily life through prayer, service, and apostolic outreach. Their spirituality emphasizes the Heart of Jesus as the center of divine love, drawing people into a deeper relationship with God. This charism is expressed through missionary work, education, pastoral care, and varied ministries that promote faith, compassion, and human dignity, inspired by the deep devotion of their founder to the merciful love of Christ.

Short History

The Daughters of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart were founded on 30 August 1874 in Issoudun, France, by Servant of God Jules Chevalier, who also founded the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (M.S.C.). From the beginning, the congregation embraced a missionary orientation, responding to the call to bring Christ’s love to all peoples. Under the early leadership of Mother Marie Louise Hartzer, the young community expanded rapidly. In 1884, sisters were sent to Oceania, and over time the congregation established foundations across the world—including Asia, Africa, and the Americas.
