Charism

The charism of the Adorers of the Blood of Christ is to make present the redeeming love of Christ’s Blood in the world. Inspired by devotion to the Precious Blood of Jesus, their spirituality is centered on contemplation, reparation, Eucharistic adoration, and apostolic service. This charism calls the sisters to be instruments of reconciliation, healing, and justice, bringing Christ’s mercy to the suffering, the marginalized, and those on the peripheries of society. Their life integrates prayer (especially Eucharistic adoration), community, and active ministry, witnessing to the power of Christ’s saving love in word and deed.

Short History

The Adorers of the Blood of Christ were founded in 1834 in Italy by St. Maria De Mattias. Bishop John Baptist Puricelli of the Diocese of Bergamo, Italy, invited her to form a community of women who would live in communion, deeply rooted in the Cross, and devoted to the Blood of Christ. From their first foundation, the sisters committed themselves to prayer, education, catechesis, and service to the poor. In the late 19th century, the congregation expanded internationally, including missions to the United States (1873), Brazil, Chile, Peru, Philippines, Colombia, Kenya, Tanzania, and other countries. Over time the Adorers developed ministries in education, healthcare, pastoral work, social services, prison ministry, advocacy for justice, and more — always grounded in the mystery of salvation in Christ’s Blood and the call to be agents of reconciliation.
