Charism

The charism of the Brothers of Christian Instruction, also known as the De La Salle Brothers, is education of youth, especially the poor and marginalized, in the spirit of faith, service, and community. Inspired by Saint John Baptist de La Salle, members dedicate themselves to teaching, formation, and pastoral accompaniment, fostering academic excellence, moral development, and spiritual growth. Their spirituality emphasizes community living, simplicity, and a commitment to the dignity of every student, aiming to prepare young people to become responsible, ethical, and faith-filled members of society.

Short History

The De La Salle Brothers were founded in 1680 in Reims, France, by St. John Baptist de La Salle, in response to the need for quality education for poor children. The congregation grew rapidly throughout Europe, and by the 19th and 20th centuries expanded globally. Today, the Brothers are present in over 80 countries, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda, running schools, colleges, technical institutes, and youth centers. Their educational mission combines faith, innovation, and social commitment, emphasizing accessible education and holistic formation for children and young people from all backgrounds.
