The charism of the Brothers of St. Charles Lwanga is centered on education, youth formation, and evangelization, inspired by the example of St. Charles Lwanga, the Ugandan martyr who exemplified faith, courage, and fidelity to Christ. Members dedicate themselves to teaching, pastoral ministry, and formation of young people, particularly in schools, parishes, and youth programs. Their spirituality emphasizes discipline, prayer, simplicity, and service to the marginalized, aiming to cultivate both spiritual and moral development in the communities they serve.
The congregation was founded in Uganda in the 20th century, inspired by the martyrdom of St. Charles Lwanga and his companions (1886). It was established to promote Christian education and moral formation among youth, especially in contexts where schools and Catholic formation were scarce. The Brothers have a strong presence in Uganda and Kenya, running secondary schools, vocational programs, and parish ministries, and continue the legacy of St. Charles Lwanga by nurturing faith, courage, and leadership among young people.
