Charism

The charism of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter is centered on **the sanctification of priests and the pastoral care of souls through faithful celebration of the Catholic liturgy according to the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite (the Traditional Latin Mass) and the dependable teaching of the faith. Members — priests and seminarians — dedicate themselves to prayer, sacramental ministry, preaching, catechesis, retreats, sacramental preparation, and service to the pastoral needs of the Church in service to local bishops. Their spirituality emphasizes fidelity to the Roman liturgical tradition, deep reverence for the sacraments, and formation of both clergy and laity in the sound teachings of the Church.

Short History

The Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter was founded on 18 July 1988 at the Abbey of Hauterive, Switzerland, by a group of priests and seminarians seeking to preserve the traditional Roman liturgy in full communion with the Holy See. This clerical society of apostolic life of pontifical right was established with approval from Pope St. John Paul II and confirmed by a decree of Pope Francis, and it now serves the Church worldwide. The Fraternity has grown to include hundreds of priests and seminarians serving in over 130 dioceses on five continents, offering pastoral care, education, retreats, and sacramental ministry centered on the Traditional Latin Mass and faithful catechesis.
