Charism

The congregation’s charism is to live and proclaim the mystery of the Holy Family of Nazareth, fostering Christian family life, youth education, and pastoral care, with particular attention to families in need of spiritual, moral, and social support. Rooted in the spirituality of Jesus, Mary, and Joseph living in Nazareth, the Fathers see the family as the primary school of faith, love, and human formation, and they dedicate themselves to teaching, evangelization, catechesis, parish ministry, and formation of young people. Their life reflects piety, work, and fidelity to the Gospel, emphasizing the central place of the family in the Church and society.

Short History

The Congregation of the Holy Family of Nazareth was founded in 1900 in Brescia, Italy, by Saint Giovanni Battista Piamarta, a parish priest deeply committed to the spiritual and practical formation of young people and families. Responding to the social challenges of his time, Piamarta established schools and workshops to help youth integrate into Christian life and society. From these beginnings, a clerical religious congregation grew, receiving pontifical approval in 1948, devoted to educating young people and strengthening family life in the Church. Over the 20th and 21st centuries, the congregation expanded beyond Italy into mission territories, including Angola in Africa, focusing on education, youth centers, parish work, and social formation.
