The Missionary Fraternity of Mary is a Catholic clerical community dedicated to missionary evangelization and priestly formation, especially among marginalized Catholic communities around the world. Its charism focuses on educating and ordaining young men to bring the Gospel and the sacraments to the poor, the underserved, and those distant from pastoral care, without regard to ethnic background. Members commit themselves to pastoral outreach, youth ministry, parish service, and formation of lay ministers, rooted in a missionary zeal to serve wherever the Church’s presence is most needed.
The Missionary Fraternity of Mary began in 1985 in the Diocese of Sololá, Guatemala, under the guidance of Bishop Angélico Melotto and with the support of the local Church, originally as a movement responding to poverty, injustice, and the need for evangelization. It was canonically established as a Society of Apostolic Life of diocesan right and later expanded its mission and formation apostolates, including a seminary in Guatemala City to train young men for priestly ministry. Over the years the Fraternity has grown into a missionary society with hundreds of priests and seminarians serving in multiple countries, including Kenya, Panama, Peru, Venezuela, Italy, Canada, and the United States, reaching out particularly to communities with little access to pastoral care.
