Charism

The Institute of the Incarnate Word is a clerical religious institute of pontifical right whose charism is evangelization and the evangelization of culture, inspired by the mystery of the Incarnation of the Son of God. Members — priests and permanent brothers — dedicate themselves to proclaiming the Gospel through preaching, pastoral ministry, catechesis, education, youth ministry, spiritual exercises, parish missions, and works of mercy. The IVE strives to inculturate the Gospel so that Christ is known and loved in every dimension of human life. Their spirituality emphasizes communion with Christ in poverty, chastity, and obedience, and a particular Marian consecration modeled on St. Louis de Montfort through a fourth vow of total surrender to the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Short History

The Institute of the Incarnate Word was founded on March 25, 1984 by Father Carlos Miguel Buela in Argentina as part of the Religious Family of the Incarnate Word, which also includes the female branch (Servants of the Lord and the Virgin of Matará, SSVM) and a Third Order for lay faithful. From its beginnings the IVE has grown into an international missionary congregation present in multiple continents, committed to evangelization where the Church is young or in particular need. The brothers and priests of the IVE serve in parishes, youth ministries, educational contexts, and missionary outreach worldwide.
