The Little Brothers of Africa live according to a Franciscan-inspired charism that is rooted in evangelical poverty and simplicity. They choose a humble way of life, sharing their resources and daily struggles with the people they serve. Their vocation is centered on fraternity and community life, where prayer, mutual support, and shared responsibility shape their daily living. Through a rhythm of prayer, manual work, and apostolic service, they strive to witness the Gospel not only in words but also through concrete actions.
The Little Brothers of Africa were founded in Morogoro, Tanzania, by Fr. Ricardo Maria (“Padre Pekupeku"). The community was canonically approved on 9 July 1997 by Bishop Telesphor Mkude, DD, then Bishop of Morogoro.
It began as a small local fraternity committed to serving the poor and evangelizing through simple community life. Over time, the brothers expanded their mission into education, parish ministry, youth formation, and social outreach, including work connected with Alfagems Secondary School. Today, the brothers serve mainly within the Diocese of Morogoro.
