To evangelize—introduce the Good News of Jesus Christ beyond the traditional Church walls and accompany Catholics who feel distant from the Church, engaging people in faith through preaching, reconciliation, pastoral care, media, and parish and campus ministries.
The Paulist Fathers were founded in 1858 in New York City by Servant of God Isaac Thomas Hecker along with companions from the Redemptorist community, with a specific missionary focus to reach people in North America in a way that met the culture of the time. They became the first Catholic society of apostolic life established in the United States, emphasizing evangelization through word and media, and serving those on the margins of the Church.
Over the decades the Paulists expanded their ministries through parish work, campus and downtown ministries, publishing (Paulist Press), and media outreach to share the Catholic faith in accessible forms. Today they continue their mission centered on evangelization, reconciliation, and engagement with modern culture while fostering community life and priestly formation.
