Short History

The Missionary Sisters of the Queen of the Apostles (S.R.A.) trace their roots to the Missionary Society of the Immaculate Conception founded in 1893 by Fr. Antonius Maria Bodewig in Germany for missionary work, particularly in India. After periods of suppression and renewal, the women’s branch was canonically established on 1 July 1923 in Vienna, Austria, under the title Missionary Society of the Queen of the Apostles. It continued the missionary spirit and apostolic outreach of its origins.
In the mid-20th century the congregation received the pontifical decretum laudis in 1949 and definitive approval by the Holy See in 1964, confirming its status as a religious institute of pontifical right dedicated to missionary service and evangelization across cultures and nations.
