Charism

To visit and tend the lonely sick poor in their homes, offering compassionate, gratuitous care — both physical and spiritual — in imitation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and with a spirit of maternal love toward those who suffer. Their mission embodies Christ’s tender love for the afflicted and abandoned.

Short History

The Little Servants were founded in 1874 in Turin, Italy, by Blessed Giovanna Francesca (Anna) Michelotti, a woman consecrated to God who saw the suffering and abandonment of the poor sick in their homes and dedicated her life to bringing them comfort and care. From the beginning, the sisters lived in community and made public vows of chastity, poverty, and obedience, responding to the Gospel call to serve Christ in the suffering poor with tenderness and humility.
Approved as a religious institute of pontifical right, the P.S.S.C. sisters expanded their presence beyond Italy into Madagascar and Romania while continuing to focus on visiting and tending the sick poor, accompanying families, and promoting Christian consolation at the bedside of the suffering. Their generalate remains in Turin, and their life continues to reflect the compassionate spirit of their foundress.
