Charism

The Teresina Sisters live the charism of humble missionary service in the spirit of St. Therese of the Child Jesus, guided by her virtues of simplicity, trust, and love. They commit themselves to evangelization, education, healthcare, catechesis, and social outreach, especially to vulnerable children, families, and marginalized communities, striving to reveal God’s compassion in daily life.

Short History

The Missionary Sisters of St. Therese of the Child Jesus were founded in 1935 in Tosamaganga, Iringa, Tanzania by Msgr. Francesco Cagliero, an Italian missionary of the Consolata Missionaries. They began as a diocesan institute to support the growing pastoral and social needs of the local Church, shaped by the missionary zeal of early missionaries. Initially formed under the guidance of Consolata Sisters, they gained independence as a distinct congregation in 1964.
Over the decades, the congregation expanded its presence and ministries beyond Iringa to serve wider communities through education, healthcare, pastoral care, and social development. Their work has grown to include involvement in community projects, orphan care, and sustainable development initiatives. While they remain a diocesan congregation, the Sisters have extended their service regionally and internationally, collaborating with local churches and mission partners to address spiritual and human needs.
