The Rosminian Sisters of Providence live a religious consecration rooted in the Gospel and in the spirit of Divine Providence, inspired by their founder Blessed Antonio Rosmini. They dedicate their lives to living out the love and mercy of Christ through prayer, community life, and works of charity. Traditionally they commit themselves to poverty, chastity, and obedience, offering service wherever it is needed while trusting in God’s provident care. Their work historically has included teaching, pastoral ministry, visiting the sick, and Christian instruction, with a focus on both contemplative prayer and active service.
The Rosminian Sisters of Providence were founded in 1832 in Italy, arising from the early work of Blessed Antonio Rosmini and the Abbé Jean-Baptiste Löwenstein as part of a broader movement within the Institute of Charity. The congregation received papal recognition and grew steadily through the 19th century. They established communities across Europe and later expanded globally, opening houses in Tanzania (1955), Venezuela (1966), Colombia (1989), and India (1991). In 1843, Rosminian Sisters were first sent to England to assist with Catholic education. Over time their mission expanded through teaching, pastoral care, and various ministries according to local needs. While numbers have declined in some regions in recent decades, they remain an international Roman Catholic religious congregation.
