Main Stream: Claretians
The charism of the Claretian Missionaries is to be prophetic and missionary servants of the Word of God, rooted in the example and spirituality of Saint Anthony Mary Claret. Their vocation is to proclaim the Gospel with zeal, especially to the poor and marginalized, by living out a communion of life in community, prayer, and service while witnessing through education, communication, formation, parish ministry, and social outreach. This spiritual focus on the Heart of Mary shapes their mission with humility, gentleness, and maternal love, inviting others to experience the transformative love of Christ through their witness.
The Claretian Missionaries were founded on July 16, 1849, by Saint Anthony Mary Claret in Vic, Spain with a small group of priests dedicated to preaching and mission work. Recognized by the Church in 1865, they grew as a missionary congregation committed to evangelization, education, communications, and pastoral ministry. Their history includes periods of struggle and expansion, including growth in Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia. Over time they developed into an international congregation focused on both traditional missionary work and contemporary needs such as social justice, media evangelization, and interfaith dialogue.
