Charism

The charism of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood centers on proclaiming the reconciling love of Christ through the spirituality of His Most Precious Blood. Inspired by their founder Saint Gaspar del Bufalo, members are united by a bond of charity and are called to bring the Gospel to places where the Church’s presence and God’s healing love are most needed. They serve through parish ministry, preaching, reconciliation, education, social outreach, community life, and pastoral care, always emphasizing unity, reconciliation, and compassion.

Short History

The Society of the Precious Blood was founded on August 15, 1815, by Saint Gaspar del Bufalo in Italy with a mission to rekindle faith and proclaim Christ’s saving love through His Blood. Over the centuries, the community expanded internationally, establishing provinces, vicariates, and missions in Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa. The Missionaries first arrived in Tanzania in 1966, initially as part of missionary outreach from the Italian Province; by 1972 they became a delegation, and on August 8, 2015, the Tanzanian mission was elevated to the status of a Province of the Society of the Precious Blood.
