Main Stream: Consolata
The charism of the Consolata Missionaries is focused on missionary evangelization “ad gentes,” meaning a special dedication to bringing the Good News of Jesus Christ to peoples and cultures where the Gospel has not yet taken deep root. Inspired by the life and mission of Saint Giuseppe Allamano, members commit to live the Gospel through prayer, community life, witness, and service among the poor, marginalized, and unreached peoples. They strive to incarnate Christ’s love in diverse cultural contexts, promoting evangelization, human development, dialogue, and reconciliation as expressions of missionary charity.
The Institute of the Consolata Missionaries was founded on January 29, 1901 in Turin, Italy by Saint Giuseppe Allamano with the aim of forming missionaries for the evangelization of the world, especially in mission territories. From its beginning, the IMC embraced a strong missionary thrust, sending missionaries to Africa as early as 1902, where they established mission stations in Kenya and later in Tanzania. Over the decades the congregation expanded worldwide across Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe, establishing mission parishes, schools, health centers, and formation houses. Today the IMC is present in numerous countries and continues its missionary commitment under the guidance of its Superior General, Fr. James Bhola Lengarin, I.M.C.
