Charism

The charism of the Congregation of the Mission, also known as the Vincentians, is focused on preaching the Gospel to the poor and forming the clergy for service in parishes and missions. Inspired by St. Vincent de Paul, members dedicate themselves to evangelization, education, and charity, especially among the poor and marginalized. Their spirituality emphasizes practical charity, humility, and availability, seeking to bring both spiritual and material assistance to those in need while strengthening the Church through formation of priests, catechesis, and missionary work.

Short History

The Congregation of the Mission was founded in 1625 in Paris, France, by St. Vincent de Paul, in response to the urgent need for the evangelization of the poor and for the formation of parish clergy. Initially working with rural and urban poor, the Vincentians established missions, seminaries, and charitable initiatives across Europe. Over the centuries, the congregation expanded internationally, including missions in Africa, Asia, and the Americas, emphasizing pastoral care, education, and charity. In Tanzania, the Vincentians have been active in training clergy, parish missions, and social service programs, integrating their missionary zeal with a strong focus on forming local Church leaders.
