Charism

heir charism (spiritual gift and mission) is to evangelize and educate young people—especially the poor, abandoned, and marginalized—through education, pastoral work, and care, living the Salesian spirituality of Reason, Religion, and Loving-Kindness modeled after Don Bosco and Mary Mazzarello. Their ministries include schools, technical/vocational centres, youth centres, parish work, children’s homes, and outreach to young women.

Short History

The Salesian Sisters were founded in 1872 in Mornese, Italy, by St. John Bosco (Don Bosco) together with St. Maria Domenica Mazzarello to assist in his ministry to youth and especially to girls. They expanded rapidly from Italy into missionary work worldwide. In East Africa, the Salesian presence began as part of Project Africa in the early 1980s and grew into the East Africa Province (AFE), currently serving in Kenya, Tanzania, and Rwanda with schools, youth programs, and community outreach.
