Charism

The charism of SSVM is the “evangelization of culture,” meaning they seek to prolong the Incarnation of Christ into all human realities and cultures — integrating faith and life in ways that draw people closer to Christ. Their spirituality and mission include: Proclaiming the Gospel and Catholic faith in both missionary and pastoral contexts. Living the evangelical counsels of poverty, chastity, and obedience, with a fourth vow of Marian slavery of love according to St. Louis Marie de Montfort. Participating in parish ministry, catechesis, schools, healthcare, homes for the elderly and disabled, youth ministries, and retreats.

Short History

The Servants of the Lord & the Virgin of Matará (SSVM) were founded on 19 March 1988 in San Rafael, Argentina by Father Carlos Miguel Buela and are the female branch of the Religious Family of the Incarnate Word (which also includes the Institute of the Incarnate Word priests and brothers). SSVM grew with a mission to evangelize culture — extending the Gospel into all aspects of human life.
