Charism

The charism of the FSPA is perpetual prayer and Eucharistic adoration combined with active service. Sisters dedicate themselves to prayer, intercession, and devotion to the Eucharist, while also engaging in ministries such as education, healthcare, and social service. Their spirituality reflects the Franciscan values of poverty, humility, and simplicity, integrating contemplative life with practical apostolic works. Through continual prayer and sacrificial service, they support the Church’s mission and intercede for the needs of the world.

Short History

The FSPA were founded in 1849 in Olpe, Germany as a branch of the Franciscan Third Order Regular, emphasizing perpetual Eucharistic adoration. The congregation expanded rapidly, particularly to North America, where they established monasteries, schools, and hospitals. Over time, the sisters combined their contemplative dedication with active apostolic outreach, extending their mission to other continents, including Africa, particularly Kenya and Tanzania. Their distinctive witness is the integration of continuous prayer with active service, reflecting both the contemplative and Franciscan missionary spirit.
