Charism

The charism of the MIC is missionary service under the protection of the Immaculate Conception, emphasizing evangelization, education, healthcare, and social outreach. Sisters integrate prayer, communal life, and apostolic ministry, bringing Christ’s love to marginalized communities. Their spirituality is marked by humility, simplicity, and dedication to the Gospel, focusing on the holistic development of individuals and the transformation of society through faith and service.

Short History

The congregation was founded in 1892 in Spain by Blessed María Antonia Bandrés Elósegui, with a missionary focus on spreading the Gospel, especially among underserved populations. The MIC Sisters quickly expanded to other continents, establishing schools, hospitals, and social programs. They arrived in Africa in the early 20th century, including Tanzania and Kenya, providing education, healthcare, and pastoral ministry, always guided by the Franciscan-inspired spirit of service and devotion to the Immaculate Conception.
