Main Stream: Immaculate Heart of Mary

The charism of the ICM is missionary service inspired by the love and guidance of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, combining evangelization, education, and healthcare. Sisters integrate prayer, communal life, and apostolic work, bringing Christ’s love to marginalized communities. Their spirituality emphasizes humility, simplicity, and fidelity to the Gospel, focusing on holistic development of people and service to those in need.

The congregation was founded in 1897 in the Netherlands by Blessed Mother Marie Louise Hartzer, with a focus on missionary work and education. The ICM Sisters expanded internationally, especially to Asia, Africa, and the Americas, establishing schools, hospitals, and social programs. In Africa, including Kenya and Tanzania, they serve in education, healthcare, and pastoral ministries, responding to local needs while maintaining their Franciscan-inspired missionary spirit.
